Nominations are now being accepted for the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Long Island chapter Board of Directors for the 2018 term. Serving as a volunteer member of the board is an opportunity to shape the future of fundraising on Long Island, to serve the fundraising community and to grow leadership skills.

AFP has a longstanding history on Long Island as being “the voice of philanthropy,” and you are one of those voices. If you are interested in making your voice heard, please consider putting your name forth for consideration as a 2018 board member. If you know of someone who is an appropriate candidate and has the desire to serve, please submit an application on their behalf.

The deadline for nominations is November 20, 2017.

Board members are elected to serve a one year term. AFP Board service provides the opportunity to apply leadership skills, develop relationships with other talented professionals, and expand as a fundraiser. Chamberlain Scholarship 2017               

The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy is offering the Chamberlain Scholarship program for the 2018 AFP International Fundraising Conference. Every AFP Chapter is eligible to give away one Chamberlain Scholarship, which covers the recipient’s conference registration fee, minus a $10 processing fee, to the AFP International Fundraising Conference on Philanthropy to be held April 15-17, 2018 in New Orleans. The scholarship is only available to individuals who have never attended an AFP International Conference. And to make it more enticing, our chapter adds an additional stipend to help with the cost!

Members who have been to the conference in the past return energized and inspired, with new ideas from colleagues in fundraising across the globe. Learn more by  visiting the AFP website for details.

To apply, you’ll need to complete the AFPLI chapter application, and return it to the chapter office by October 15th.

To qualify, you must:

  • Be employed as a fundraising professional or, if candidate is an executive director, a substantial amount of time must be devoted to fundraising.
  • Never have attended an AFP or NSFRE International Conference on Fundraising as a registered participant (unless as a member of the Conference Host Committee).
  • Agree to complete an online evaluation form about his or her experience at International Conference.

AFPLI Honored as a Ten Star Chapter
We are pleased to annouce that AFPLI has been named a Ten Star Chapter by our parent organization, Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Every year, AFP, the largest association of professional fundraisers in the world, honors chapters for achieving goals that align with key objectives in its long-range strategic plan. Chapters receive the Ten Star Award for performing specific activities designed to increase professionalism within fundraising and public awareness of the importance of philanthropy. Just one-third of all AFP chapters are named Ten Star Chapters, so the Association of Fundraising Professionals Long Island Chapter is one of a select group of chapters to earn this honor.

President Catherine Muscente said “This is the fourth time that AFPLI has been named a Ten Star Chapter by AFP. Through the combined efforts of our chapter members, board of directors and administrative team, our commitment to advancing the profession of fundraising on Long Island has continued for more than twenty years. We continue our emphasis on accomplishing this by providing great educational programs, networking opportunities and Philanthropy Day.”
Ten Star Chapters are recognized at the AFP International Conference on Fundraising. Chapters also earn the privilege of displaying the Ten Star logo on their website, newsletters and stationary.

“I want to congratulate AFPLI, which is playing a key role on Long Island in promoting ethical and effective fundraising and educating the public about the importance of fundraising and wise giving,” said Jason Lee, Interim president and CEO of AFP. “Our Ten Star Chapters have demonstrated outstanding programming and leadership for the fundraising profession, and I’m pleased to recognize their outstanding efforts. If individuals and organizations on Long Island have questions about fundraising and philanthropy, they should definitely contact AFPLI.”

Criteria for the award are determined by AFP International Headquarters. A list of several goals is published annually and chapters must accomplish 10 of these goals during the year and submit a nomination form for verification to be honored.
